Baca County Division of Emergency Management Riley Frazee, Director 741 Main Street Springfield, CO 81073 719-523-6532 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – CORRECTS MEDIA REPORTS Saturday, December 30, 2006 (SPRINGFIELD, COLORADO) The Baca County Division of Emergency Management has learned that some media outlets are reporting that the National Guard rescued a bus load of 46 people from north of Springfield. It appears that some information from different events in the area has been confused. There was a stranded bus north of Springfield on Highway 287 with 46 people including the driver Friday afternoon. Responders from Baca County Emergency Services and the Colorado State Patrol were able to rescue the people on board the bus Friday and transport them to shelter in Springfield. National Guard personnel arrived in Baca County Saturday evening, and are being deployed for search and rescue missions in the area. They were not deployed to the area for the stranded bus, and do not currently have any mission assignments relating a stranded bus. We appreciate media efforts to educate the public about ongoing efforts to address situations created by this week’s storm, and hope this information is helpful.
